What to Do After Your Phone Gets Wet
Quick, calm steps after water exposure can reduce further damage and give a technician the best chance to assess the phone.
Turn it off and disconnect it
If the phone is on, power it down as soon as you safely can. Remove the charging cable, case, and any detachable accessories. Do not keep testing the screen, cameras, or speakers: electricity and moisture together can create additional damage.
Skip the common shortcuts
Do not charge the phone, use a hair dryer, place it on a heater, or push objects into its ports. Rice is not a dependable repair method and can leave debris behind. Gently blot the outside with a lint-free cloth and let surface moisture drain naturally without shaking the phone aggressively.
Get the right assessment
Water can travel beyond the visible opening and corrosion may develop later. Bring the device in promptly for an inspection, especially if it will not power on, has a foggy camera, distorted audio, or a charging warning. If it powers on before service, back it up only if doing so does not require charging or prolonged use.
