Why Your Phone Charges Only at an Angle
A phone that charges only when the cable is held just right can be frustrating. Here is how to narrow down the cause safely.

Start with the easy checks
Try a known-good cable and power adapter first. Inspect the connector for bent pins, fraying, or heat damage. If another cable fits securely and charging returns to normal, replace the worn accessory.
Look, do not probe
Lint can collect in a charging port and keep the cable from seating fully. Turn the phone off and use a light to look inside. Avoid metal tools, liquids, or force: they can damage the contacts or cause a short.
Watch for signs of a port problem
If several known-good cables feel loose, charging repeatedly connects and disconnects, or the phone gets unusually warm while charging, the port or its internal connection may need service. Wireless charging working while cable charging fails can also help narrow down the issue.
Protect your data before a repair
If the device still powers on, make a current backup before bringing it in. A technician can inspect the port, cable fit, battery condition, and charging behavior, then explain the repair options clearly.
When to stop using the charger
Stop charging and seek help promptly if you notice a swollen battery, a burnt smell, sparks, visible corrosion, or excessive heat. Those are not do-it-yourself situations.
